RISK IT FOR THE BISCUIT BY BRYAN JAMIESON
Taking risks has forced me to go outside my comfort zone, which has changed my life forever. When I take risks, I fail all the time; however, I practice taking my risks and failures and using them as learning opportunities to help push me closer to my goal or towards success. I have always lived by the slogan, “risk it for the biscuit” and “do it for the story”. Now I say this every time I think about taking a big risk.
My junior year of college, I wanted to ask out this gorgeous, popular girl that I thought I had no chance with. I got the courage to ask her out right before winter break…and she said flat out, no. Two weeks later; I was visiting my Aunt and Uncle in Columbus, OH for the holidays. Conveniently, this girl just so happened to live in the same part of Columbus as my family. Obviously I was still crazy about this girl and wanted to invite her over and give it another try, but one problem stood in my way: my aunts only rule while I was staying at her house was that I could not have friends over at the house without them being there.
Regardless, I broke this rule, took a big risk, and asked her to come over while they were both at work, so I could cook her “the best breakfast she’s ever had”. Thankfully she said yes and would drive over in 30 minutes. I was so shocked that she said yes, that I totally forgot about the fact that I barely know how to cook. With only 30 minutes until she was coming over, I was scrambling to figure out how to cook an amazing breakfast. Picture me watching YouTube videos on two computers to try and learn how to cook. On one screen I was watching videos on how to cook scrambled eggs. On the other computer screen, I was watching videos how to make cinnamon rolls. Lets just say when she arrived, the eggs and cinnamon rolls were a little burnt, but risking it for the biscuit paid off. She was so touched that I tried my best to make her “the best breakfast she’s ever had”, even if my cooking looked like something that was made in an Easy Bake Oven.
If I didn’t risk it for the biscuit, this gorgeous popular girl I have been talking about wouldn’t be my girlfriend of almost a year!! Who would’ve thunk that thinking about taking a risk from Friedman’s class, would honestly turn into me finding love. I highly recommend taking risks y’all! You never know what adventure they will take you on!
