AT 18 THEY EXPECT ME TO DO WHAT? BY MELISSA JOHNSON
Who decided that eighteen year olds are capable enough to decide what they want to do for the rest of their lives? That with only eighteen years of experiences they know what they are passionate about and know their career path. There is so much pressure on students to pick the perfect major because it “decides their future,” but does it really? Just because a student majors in a certain field, doesn’t mean they are stuck only in that field for the rest of their life. For instance, my major reflects an interest of mine at a specific moment of my life, but since then I have had ample of new experiences. I, along with many others my age, are on a path to find out what we’re truly passionate about.
Everyone has a mission in life and college is a stepping stone in figuring out what that mission is. Allow experiences in your life, area of study, talent and drive, and passion to help shape your life’s mission. Your major doesn’t dictate your future.
