LIFE MOTTOS AND STAYING TRUE TO YOU BY MATT JOHNSTON
“But Dad, they (my friends) said it would be ok.”
This is the statement that lead to a quote from my Dad that would stick with me to this day, and has become my life motto.
“Stay true to you.”
That simple response was enough for me to really begin to think those words before making any decision that questioned my character. The event that caused this conversation took place when I was quite young and had no significance to the development of my own self. However, those four words have guided my ways of life since. I began to look at myself and actively began to check in on myself to see if the actions I was taking were a clear representation of myself.
“I’d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.” – Kurt Cobain
I am a firm believer in not altering yourself to please others. I think that you need to make sacrifices in life to succeed, however staying true to your own character is vital to happiness and success. Following your own desires and passions will not only lead you to an energetic and satisfied life.
Find yourself a life motto that truly represents who you are, and it will guide you to a happier life. It is an extremely useful tool in the bettering of yourself. My life motto is “Stay true to you.”, what’s yours?
