CHECKING THE LIST TWICE BY MADISON KRELL

CHECKING THE LIST TWICE BY MADISON KRELL

Every year, on January 1st, I take out a giant 24 x 18 in. sheet of paper and in multicolored sharpies begin to write all of the things I want to do that year. From big goals such as attend a masquerade ball and touch a zoo animal. To self improvement goals like go 24 hours technology free and become president. I want each year of my life to be filled with memorable moments, so I create a list filled with over 200 things I wish to accomplish that year.
My hopes in doing this is to challenge myself, become more creative, grow as a person, and get some really cool stories out of this.
I was planning on going to Australia this summer with study abroad, so I wrote down “to touch a kangaroo” on my bucket list. Unfortunately, the trip was cancelled, but I still had the task to touch a kangaroo that I needed to do before December 31st. But over the summer, while road tripping with a friend, we saw a sign promoting an interactive zoo. We stopped by, and when we were walking around, we saw a sign that said “feed our kangaroos for only $5”.
I’m in the process of becoming more spontaneous. This list helps me take advantage of situations that are unplanned. Without it, I wouldn’t have done half the amazing things that I’ve had the opportunity to do the past 2 years. It’s taught me to become more creative, be brave, and to put myself out there.
