BEING CRITICALLY CREATIVE BY DUNCAN THOMAS
As a graphic designer, I am forced to put creativity in somewhat of a grey area because I am supposed to be unique yet follow a set of fundamental rules. Being put in this position, I am in a constant battle with myself thinking what can I do to be strategically creative in my design. I believe that good design echoes the values, attitude, and aesthetic of the idea it came from. Trying to incorporate all of these factors into my design is extremely hard but when it all comes together it is special. Learning heuristics and different mindsets has enabled me to be more efficient when it comes to my creative process applying it to design. Embracing the ambiguity of going with a crazy idea fully knowing I might not be able to achieve it is apart of what I look for now because I know even if I fail, the closest result I come up with will be good. I want to continue to grapple with myself and strive to always be a better designer and creative person. Doing both of these will lead me to becoming a great designer and someone who is satisfied with their identity as an artist.
