CREATIVITY IS A WAY OF LIFE BY QUINN MCCLAMROCH

CREATIVITY IS A WAY OF LIFE BY QUINN MCCLAMROCH

I never thought I was a creative person. When I was younger, I enjoyed going to math and analytical type classes because there was one right answer and I knew I had done everything correctly. I have always struggled with ambiguity. When I was given a problem to solve, I would run and ask others for a direction to go in. There has always been a large voice of judgement in my brain and people telling me the things that I am supposed to do, many of these do not involve being creative. I never thought I would be able to bring back the imaginative, creative mindset I had as a child.

What I have learned now, halfway through my college career, is that creativity is a way of life. It’s so much more than simply drawing outside of the lines. Being creative is to silence your voices of judgement. Being creative is embracing ambiguity and taking challenges head on. Being creative is asking questions that others don’t think of. Being creative is taking risks. Being creative is putting your thoughts to action. Being creative isn’t something that suddenly comes back to you from your childhood. It takes hard work and countless improvement, but I know I am a far more creative person today than I was for the majority of the last five years. I hope everyone embraces their creativity and the ambiguity that comes with life.
